Position Overview: As the Network Transportation Manager at Primal, you will oversee the successful execution of our transportation plans, ensuring efficient and secure movement of materials and finished goods between suppliers, co-packers, warehouses, and customers.  You will evaluate and develop cost-effective transportation options, focusing on reducing costs, meeting customer requirements, and enhancing overall service.  Leveraging the Transportation Management System (TMS) and ERP, you will ensure cost efficiency and accurate tracking of all transportation-related KPIs.  Additionally you will support the end-to-end supply chain by working closely with other functions to deliver materials when and where needed, driving world-class supply chain performance.
Location: Abilene preferred (requires <20% travel)
Responsibilities:
  • Manage overall transportation for Primal leveraging the TMS to drive process improvements in tendering freight, managing carrier performance, and invoice auditing. Negotiating contracts and diversifying carrier mix.
  • Work within the TMS and ERP to secure transportation and accurate accounting for movement of goods for suppliers, co-packers, warehouses, inter-company, and customer freight as needed
  • Manage and create analytics to monitor costs using TMS and ERP data to ensure clear understanding of network transportation and choices on KPI's and cost
  •  Serve as Primal's primary point of contact for 3PL-managed transportation, overseeing service levels, identifying efficiency opportunities, developing action plans as needed, and collaborating with procurement during rate negotiations.
  • Develop and monitor transportation-related KPIs to ensure cost efficiency, customer service, and supply chain performance (i.e. – on time delivery, freight cost/unit, transit times, order accuracy, damage rates, etc.)
  • Work closely with Customer Service/Order Management group to drive efficiencies and improvements to meet and improve overall customer service including fill rates, reducing penalties/fines, and find collaborative innovation opportunities
  • Partner with Sales to support their efforts to grow revenue with logistics support including efficient customer service and transportation management
  • Work closely with S&OP to drive OTIF improvements. Translating demand/supply plans into transportation capacity requirements and cash flow impact.
  • Understand and improve financial measures related to logistics including meeting the budget and installing KPIs to drive cost savings and productivity improvements.
  • Act as the subject matter expert in forecasting transportation costs and for projects impacting transportation costs
  • Work closely with Procurement to effectively monitor and improve carrier performance, assess current TMS capabilities and work with Procurement on ensuring Primal has the right systems and tools in place
  • Manage Parcel freight agreements and work with vendors to manage costs and find more efficient solutions for Parcel freight
  • Manage International shipping to customers including helping establish supply chains and execute them with excellence
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration among team members, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to logistics especially in the pet food industry
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field and relevant certifications (i.e. – CSCP, CPL, etc.) are highly desirable.
  • 5 years+ of relevant experience in a logistics related field or CPG supply chain experience preferably within the foods or other regulated products industries.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading transportation/logistics functions with excellence including transportation management
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for logistics specific to the food industry, including food safety and international shipping requirements
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional leadership and abilities, with a collaborative and results-oriented approach.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to travel 20% of the time to warehouses, carrier offices, project sites or manufacturing facilities as needed.
