This (Senior) Brand Manager position will lead innovation, product renovation and pipeline development for the Primal Pet Foods business. Working cross-functionally throughout the organization, the role will own the roadmap for Primal’s product experience. We’re looking for someone that has deep experience in broad innovation ownership that can successfully develop and execute brand strategy, consumer insights, innovation concepting and detailed product development. This comprehensive role will drive an industry-leading, multi-channel product pipeline while flawlessly managing key projects and continuously optimizing the product portfolio. The ideal candidate for this position will have an entrepreneurial mindset, delivering big picture thinking while executing with a detail-oriented focus. This role will require a strong sense of ownership, organizational partnership, and passion for improving the lives of pets! The role reports to the Primal Pet Group Vice President of Marketing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the creation and continuous development of our new 3-year Primal Pet Foods product pipeline for domestic and international markets, inclusive of new items and portfolio optimization.

• Develop the broader ideation process and manage execution, including identifying, researching, sizing and validating ideas, and leveraging consumer researching and testing when appropriate.

• Lead innovation projects as they move from concept to launch within the Primal StageGate™ process, including brief creation, ideation, product design & consumer validation, project scaling and commercialization.

• Play the lead role in analysis and sharing of market trends, consumer preferences, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for innovation/renovation, regularly reviewing to identify insights.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including brand marketing, sales, project management, quality, operations, R&D, regulatory and finance to effectively support innovation projects and ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.

• Work closely with R&D and Nutrition throughout the new product development lifecycle to provide input on product formulations and product testing.

• Manage detailed deliverables related to the creative execution of new products including timelines, technical documents and packaging proofing to ensure on time delivery with internal and external partners.

• Lead analysis that ensures opportunities meet financial objectives through price, positioning, forecasting, revenue & margin expectations.

• Monitor project progress against goals and objectives, identify potential risks and issues, and implement mitigation strategies as needed.

• Develop compelling, insight-backed internal & external presentations to support product sell-in, marketing hand-off and training.

• Identify opportunities for innovation process optimization and help develop changes to improve effectiveness and streamline speed to market.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5+ years of prior brand, innovation or product development experience in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry.

  • Pet industry experience highly preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field required, MBA is a plus.

• Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint & Word

• Experience in using data sources such as Nielsen, Stackline, and trend reports.

• Proven track record of leading successful new product initiatives, from concept development to commercialization.

• Highly motivated self-starter and creative problem-solver who demonstrates curiosity and passion.

• Strong blend of strategic mindset and analytical/data-driven thinking, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable strategies and initiatives.

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence key stakeholders.

• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience in delivering big picture thinking while managing meticulous attention to detail.

Additional Considerations:

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S.

• This position is mostly remote with the option to go to our Evanston office if desired. 

• Ability to travel up to 25% to other Primal locations and other necessary locations identified for the position and business. 

Compensation: Range representative below is for Chicago, Illinois and Fairfield, California locations.

  • $121,000-$180,000 - salary offered is dependent on experience level, qualifications, location, and other factors not limited to these mentioned.
